Message from the desk of the President
Sri David Ledger

In N.G. Dastane-vs-Shrikant S. Shivde, AIR 2001 SC 2028, The Hon'ble Supreme Court ruled that the central function of the legal profession is to help promotion of administration of justice. It is, therefore, needless to reiterate that members of the legal profession have a crucial role to play in making the justice delivery system more effective and meaningful. At the same time, it is imperative that legal practitioners should be aware of the dignity attached to their noble profession. To have one's name recorded in the Roll of Advocate's is not enough. Emulative professional conduct and etiquette apart from serious hard work are the hallmarks of a quality lawyer. On the other hand, a lawyer who repeatedly indulges in professional misconduct stigmatizes the legal fraternity and is unfit to remain in the profession. AALA has to take serious view of such matters holding of talks and seminars on important legal topics addressed by eminent jurists can play a vital role in educating junior lawyers, improving the standards of advocacy in general and in keeping the profession clean and free from disrepute.

Protection of rights, privileges and professional interests of lawyers are also matters of great importance. And this is exactly where the roles of AALA and Bar Council come in. Being a high profile State Body, AALA has to keep strict vigil the various problems faced by its members associations and may constant efforts to find solutions to these problems.

AALA is a prestigious body of lawyers in the state, the only of its kind in the whole of India and therefore it is in the fitness of things that it strives hard to maintain its unique identity and image by ensuring that the dignity by profession, rule of law and healthy administration of justice are upheld by its member organizations. At the same time, honest effort must be made to ensure that the poorest of the poor and weakest of the weak is not left out of the justice delivery system.

Touching lives, ensuring justice - should be the motto of AALA.
